MUSINGS FROM IN FRONT OF THE TELEVISION
I happened to catch part of an episode of the PBS show
called Nature. This episode was about the Lipizzaner Stallions in
Vienna, amazing horses known for their ability to perform exquisite athletic
and acrobatic jumps.
The series chronicled the stringent training and raising of
these beautiful creatures. Before
they are able to be saddled and ridden, the horses have a waiting period of a
couple years (basically until they reach an appropriate age). During this period of maturation, they
are allowed to roam free through the Viennese mountain meadows surrounding the
property of their training facility.
A seemingly idyllic life, right?
Apparently there is a hierarchy within a herd. There may be
an already established leader, but the stallions constantly question the
order. How a horse may move up the
ranks is by the time honored tradition of defecating and having the other horse
sniff it. Apparently those with
the strongest, most mature smelling feces are allowed to move up the
ranks.
Of course, this amused me.

I was watching the Golden Globes this evening. Having been embroiled in a Buffy the
Vampire Slayer rerun binge, I had forgotten
that they were on. In truth, I
hadn’t seen most of the shows and movies nominated. I so rarely get to see “adult” movies anymore, yet I still love watching awards shows. I love the fashion, the pomp, the
awkward speeches—and of course imagining that I will receive an award. Or at the
very least get to co-present with Johnny Depp.

Sometimes there are lines that crack me up. My favorite of the evening came from Episode 39 of The Mindy Project, which I had DVR'd.
“I will Jim Henson you into apologizing” (complete with hand motion).
Total laugh out loud material. Ah, TV, how I do love thee.
Until tomorrow, Lovelies....
