Today marks the first day of my countdown to the big 4-0.
While not a new idea in the blogging world, I have decided to chronicle
this tick-tock of my mortal clock with a series of entries leading up to this
new decade of my life.
Ironically, as I write this first entry, I am watching an
early "birthday" episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (one of my favorite shows from when I was younger).
In the episode, entitled "Surprise", her birthday brings with
it a multitude of catastrophic events. One can only hope that mine won't
be the same...but then, I am not exactly hanging out with sexy, brooding
vampires. Unfortunately. Ha.
In truth, I've never felt much trepidation about turning 40
(or thirty-ten as some women call it). It is only since the divorce that
my age has even become an issue.
You know, those old chestnuts that keep one awake at night:
"This isn’t where I thought my life would be at this
point in my life.”
“Will I ever marry or find love
again?”
“Can I have any more kids should I
want them?”
Rather than focus on the negative, however, I am hoping to
instead share my thoughts/events of each day until my birthday in a positive
light. After all, each day is a
gift—and a chance for change, excitement and joy.
DAY 1 (1/4/14): NEW DAY, NEW HAIR, NEW VENTURE
DAY 1 (1/4/14): NEW DAY, NEW HAIR, NEW VENTURE
Turning 40 is a big deal, so I felt I deserved a big
change: After 3 ½ hours in the
salon chair of my amazingly talented stylist friend, my hair is now a glorious
Barbie Pink (with streaks of Bubblegum Pink, Magenta and Coral for good
measure)! So sassy! Oh my gosh, this hair wants to
party…even if my body would rather be home watching TV. Lol.
After the transformation, I also got the opportunity to feed
my soul by spending time with one of my favorite friends. We discussed a possible joint creative
venture. It felt good to
collaborate and brainstorm! I miss
that sometimes. Plus, I feel that
she really appreciates my input.
We’ll see where it all goes from here.
I am now happily snuggled up in bed with my computer and more Buffy the Vampire Slayer reruns. A boring Saturday night? Maybe for some. Considering I have to get up early, though, I call it energy conservation.

Or maybe it’s merely avoidance of cleaning the apartment,
which is really what I SHOULD be doing.
Ha.
